Which means that I won't be buying this game. I found it lacking in style and vocabulary, the very things that make it worth spending time on their other games. This does not feel like a game that could use the phrase 'Delicious Friends' and have it feel natural. ![]() They don't ensnare the mind with their beauty. I don't repeat back phrases to myself, savouring how they sound and feel. There are many gameplay issues that others have pointed out, so I needn't go into what I observed there, but the writing. It feels like bad fanfiction, like something written by someone who read the original, but didn't get what made it good. However, the quality of the writing in Mask of the Rose is something I could only describe as pedestrian. The stories have been amazing, and the writing style has been a joy to read. But they've made up for it with fantastic writing. Why? Failbetter have never been particularly good about game mechanics. As for spoilers? This game is intended to be played multiple times, so it's not as if I'd be missing too much by getting some spoilers in. To avoid spoiling the plot, see the instructions in Part 1 and use with caution. I've enjoyed previous Failbetter Games, so I really wanted to know if it was something that would interest me. I split the tips into three categories: hint, guidance, and instruction, to help players familiar or unfamiliar with this type of choice-based visual novels find their way to achievement. So I picked up a Let's Play to get a better idea of what it was like. I haven't bought this game, as I was concerned about the rather poor reviews. ![]()
